Our Wedding

Our first trip together was to Oaxaca in March 2022. What was supposed to be a short weekend getaway turned into a month-long adventure (and yes… a few missed flights may have been involved).&nbsp;Somewhere between sipping mezcal and wandering the cobblestone streets together, we fell in love - with each other, with the town, and with the idea of a future together. After discovering the music festival called 'Mezcal Amarás', we stumbled into its signature opening event held at the ruins of Proyecto Murguia. With the colonial stone backdrop lit up by candle lights and moon light, beholden by the beauty of the moment, we looked at each other and promised that when we got married one day, we'd bring our friends back to this magical place. Fast forward to March 2026, and we'll be heading back to Proyecto Murguia for our reception to celebrate our love story— a truly full circle moment. Oaxaca created some of our most cherished memories together, and we can’t wait to make more memories with all of you.

Our Story

Oaxaca City is often called the cultural heart of Mexico — and once you arrive, you’ll see why. Nestled in a mountain valley, this vibrant city blends ancient traditions, colonial charm, and a festive spirit that make it truly unforgettable. Long before the Spanish arrived, the Zapotec and Mixtec peoples built incredible mountaintop cities like Monte Albán, which you can still explore today. In the 16th century, Spanish settlers added baroque churches, plazas, and cobblestone streets, creating the colorful mix of cultures that defines Oaxaca now. Known as the “Land of the Seven Moles,” Oaxaca is a paradise for food lovers, where every bite — from tlayudas to complex sauces — tells a story. And of course, there’s mezcal, the city’s smoky, soulful spirit said to have been born from lightning striking an agave. Locals will remind you: mezcal should be kissed, not shot. And don’t be surprised if you stumble into a&nbsp;calenda&nbsp;;)(a traditional parade with giant puppets, brass bands, and dancing)—Oaxaca loves a reason to celebrate! 🎶 We can’t wait for you to experience the magic of Oaxaca- its deep history, warm spirit, and unforgettable energy are why we fell in love with this place and why we’re so excited to celebrate here with you.

Most flights to Oaxaca connect through&nbsp;Mexico City&nbsp;or&nbsp;Texas (Dallas or Houston), so think of it as part of the adventure. Once you arrive, it’s just a quick&nbsp;20-minute ride&nbsp;into the heart of town (Centro), where the charm, color, and magic of Oaxaca await. 🚕&nbsp;From the Airport to TownTaxis are simple to grab right outside the airport, and from there you’ll be in&nbsp;Centro&nbsp;in no time. The best part? Once you’re in town, nearly everything is&nbsp;walkable—perfect for exploring cobblestone streets, lively markets, and endless mezcal bars. 🥂 We can't wait to celebrate with you!

In Oaxaca City, you can&nbsp;explore its vibrant historic center, including the Zócalo (main square) and the impressive Santo Domingo Church, visit cultural sites like the Museo de las Culturas de Oaxaca, and wander through the lively Benito Juárez Market to try local foods and crafts.

Monte Albán&nbsp;is a pre-Colombian archaeological site of the Zapotec people.&nbsp;Take the morning to enjoy&nbsp;Monte Albán&nbsp;as there is limited shade. These are the oldest ruins in Mexico dating back to 500BC and ended during Spanish settlement of the area in AD 500-700. The ruins overlook the mountains and the city of Oaxaca, making it a beautiful site to observe.

Just outside of Oaxaca is&nbsp;Santa María del Tule, a small town that is home to the widest tree in Mexico. Árbol del Tule is a sacred place for the locate Zapotec people, and is said to be at least 2,000 years old.&nbsp; <a href="https://www.itsloganmarie.com/tree-of-tule-visiting-the-widest-tree-in-mexico/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Santa María del Tule</a>&nbsp;is accessible by taxi, bike, or bus. It’s a great escape from the hustle of the city. Here there is a mercado de gastronomica as well as an artisan mercado and gorgeous gardens to walk about.

Located about 1.5 hours outside of Oaxaca City, Hierve el Agua is a breathtaking natural wonder famous for its “petrified waterfalls.” These striking rock formations were created over thousands of years by mineral-rich spring water cascading down the mountainside, leaving behind white stone that looks like frozen waterfalls. Visitors can take in panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, walk along the cliffs, or even swim in the natural infinity pools fed by the springs.
